Player Eligibility and Selection Policies

 

Player Eligibility

  1. Players must attend all try-outs for selection and participate in the correct try-out as per their age eligibility. If a player has registered for tryouts but is unable to attend tryouts for legitimate reasons, as determined by the selection committee following written notification being received from the player;
    1. and the player HAS NOT in the last 12 months played VJBL for Pakenham, then the player is not eligible for selection;
    2. and the player HAS in the last 12 months played VJBL for Pakenham, then the player is eligible for selection.

 

  1. Within two (2) days of team selections being announced, or, any time prior to team selections being announced, a player has the right of refusal for team selection in a particular team by providing written notification to the selection committee.

 

Should a player exercise their right of refusal for team selection and not provide written notification to the selection committee, then the player will forfeit their right for any team selection.

 

Regardless of the grounds of refusal for selection, should a player wish to exercise their right of refusal for team selection then the player is still eligible for selection in another team of the same age eligibility.

 

  1. A player does not have the right to nominate the team in which they wish to play.

 

  1. All written notifications to the selection committee must be via email to;

doc@pakenhambasketball.com.au and vjbl@pakenhambasketball.com.au

 

  1. Other forms of communication, or, written notification to any other email address other than those listed will not be accepted.

 

Player Selection

  1. Players will be selected on their own merit. Coaches have the right to choose eligible players (as defined above) at their total discretion with direction, assistance, advice and guidance from the selection committee.

 

  1. Within this process coaches will strive to be objective and:
    1. Demonstrate an even-handed approach to every athlete, and
    2. Support the selection process and reinforce the qualities the Association is looking for and the commitments required.

 

  1. Players may be assessed against the following selection criteria:
    1. Potential to compete successfully at VJBL level.
    2. Game sense, competitiveness and athletic ability (e.g. speed, quick hands and strength).
    3. Potential to be socially compatible and display a sense of team within a group.
    4. Being highly receptive to coaching feedback including the ability to transfer information into training and playing.
    5. Outstanding desire and commitment to improving mental, physical and basketball skills.
